The Callista, new downtown Durham condo building, now listed for sale

Construction will begin this year on The Callista, a new condo building at 802 Washington Street in downtown Durham (just north of the old ballpark), and the four available units are now listed for sale. The loft-inspired building is designed with the conveniences of a private home (including a 2-car garage for each unit) and located within walking distance of the city center.

The four custom-designed units include three 2,225-square-foot condos and a 2-story, 3,035-square-foot penthouse. For more information and to contact the listing broker, please visit thecallista.com.

The Callista is sited on a narrow property just north of the old ballpark in an area characterized by former industrial buildings adapted for apartments, restaurants and bars. The design reflects this context yet proposes a modern interpretation of the neighborhood. The building’s primary material is a deep charcoal-hued brick that echoes the nearby warehouse district. The glass curtainwall on three façades is designed with both clear glass, to offer views to the city center, and glass layered with a ceramic frit to protect from solar glare. Wood accentuates the front façade and the balconies facing Washington Street.

Our goal was to design a building that speaks to its time and place. Durham’s urban landscape is evolving, and we want to respect the character of the neighborhood while also contributing to the creative spirit of the Downtown. – Phil Szostak
